First Person is an interactive DVD, published in an edition of 1000 that brings together videos made by artists in Mexico City and Los Angeles.
The artists included employ their own bodies in performances that negotiate the pressure of conforming to cultural stereotypes promoted
by the entertainment industry and mass media. In addition to the artists' work, we also created a visual essay which
functions as an alternative navigational structure. The essay allows the videos to enter into a dialogue with historical photography,
video and performance art, and with samples from films and television.
Artists invited:
Arturo Castelán, Ximena Cuevas, Sharon Hayes, Carla Herrera-Prats y Julia Steinmetz, Justin Lincoln, Michael Mandiberg, Rodney McMillian,
Amaranta Sánchez, Haruko Tanaka, Anne Walsh, Natalie Zimmerman
