The Burden of Decision: Two Exercises on Collaboration
with Úrsula Dávila
Books, photocopies, bubble wrap, vinyl lettering
2006
Exhibited at:
TestSite, Austin, Texas
This project is structured as two exercises that aim to illustrate some of the elements, relationships and decision-making processes that come into play during collaborative e orts between individuals from di erent elds. The project began as an exploration of Fluent-Collaborative's library and informal discussions with the space's team.

After surveying Fluent's collection of books, documents and ephemera, we realized a signi cant portion of the archive related to the work of the artist Lawrence Weiner. This nding resulted in the decision to utilize these volumes as source material for the rst part of the project. Exercise 1 consisted on a chronological display of books by, on or about Weiner. The books were opened in the 'acknowledgement pages'. These items were used both as objects and as documents that illustrated Weiner's artistic trajectory, while questioning issues related to authorship, collaboration and personal relations.

Exercise 2 consisted on a printed matter produced by the Fluent-Collaborative's team according to our invitation. This duotone publication combines several texts and conversations by Caitlin Haskell, Laurence Miller, Risa Puelo and Rebecca Roberts and was available for free distribution in the gallery space.
